According to “IDC Annual Software Tracker for 2019”, the scale of China’s business intelligence software market reached US$490 million in 2019, with a year-on-year increase of 22.6%. And IDC predicts that the growth rate of China’s BI software market will slow down in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, with a year-on-year growth of 18.1%. By 2024, China’s BI software market will reach 1.19 billion U.S. dollars, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.2% in the next five years.

In terms of deployment models, in 2019, traditional deployment models accounted for 82.7% of the total business intelligence software market, and public cloud models accounted for 17.3%. The traditional deployment model (on-premise) is still the main choice of enterprises, and enterprises prefer to hold core data information inside the enterprise. Although the public cloud model accounts for a small proportion of the overall BI software market, its market growth rate is far higher than the traditional deployment model. The procurement of public cloud business intelligence comes from cloud users who have already used public cloud data management services such as big data platforms and databases. In the future, as the proportion of enterprise IT systems using public clouds continues to increase, the proportion of business intelligence software in the public cloud model will continue to grow.

The performance of various business intelligence software vendors in China is as follows. FanRuan ranks first with a market share of 16.3%. SAP and Microsoft rank second and third with 9.2% and 8.5% respectively. IBM and SAS have a long-term user base in the financial industry, ranking fourth and fifth with 5.9% and 5.2% respectively.

In the sub-market of China’s business intelligence software, reporting software is still the most important demand in the current market, with an annual market share of 79.0% in 2019. And the market share of advanced analytics and predictive analytics accounted for 21.0%.

Wang Nan, IDC’s Senior Analyst of China Enterprise Software Market, said: “At present, the digital transformation of the industry has entered a stage of multiplication and innovation. Whether in the economic and industrial multiplication plan of the regional government or the multiplication and innovation transformation of the enterprise, the mining and utilization of data has been elevated to an important strategic position. As a powerful tool for realizing the value of data, business intelligence software products are in strong market demand. It is expected that in the next 3-5 years, the scale of China’s business intelligence software market will continue to maintain rapid growth.”
